USDA – (TEFAP) The Emergency Food Assistance Program

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) allows partner agencies to provide healthy, USDA-approved products to low-income families, individuals, and seniors.

The requirements to be a recipient of the USDA food are:

  1. Must be at 185% of the poverty level
  2. Must sign a Declaration of Income form (annually)
  3. Self-reported income; no documentation required

CSFP – Commodity Supplemental Food Program

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) works to improve the health of low-income persons at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA Foods. USDA distributes both food and administrative funds to participating states and Indian Tribal Organizations. CSFP food packages do not provide a complete diet, but rather are good sources of the nutrients typically lacking in the diets of the beneficiary population.

 

The requirements to receive CSFP food are:

  • Must have income 135% of poverty level
  • Must be at least 60 years of age, (must show proof of age)
  • Must meet the income requirements (self-reported) based on the household size
