Agency Partnership

Agency Partners

Virginia Peninsula Foodbank provides food assistance to children, individuals, families, seniors and veterans in collaboration with over 160 agency partners (faith-based organizations, shelters, food pantries and other community nonprofit organizations) who help families experiencing food insecurity. We serve families in the cities and counties of:

Hampton Mathews
Newport News Poquoson
Williamsburg Surry
James City York
Gloucester

Our partner agencies (food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and faith based organizations) are an invaluable resource that allow us to expand our reach beyond what we could accomplish with only our fleet of trucks and staff alone. The Foodbank’s agency partners receive access to donated products, purchased food, fresh produce and USDA (TEFAP – The Emergency Food Assistance Program) emergency food commodities, which allow them to redirect funds normally spent on food to other outreach programs.

Benefits of Partnership:

  • Partner Agencies can withdraw food from our warehouse market for your food distribution program Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30am – 1:30pm
  • E-Alerts and Agency e-newsletters keep your organization abreast of new donated products and changes to market hours.
  • Committed to Community Agency Academy-Learn how to further expand your organization’s capacity to serve others

Our application window is now OPEN. Partnership Applications will be accepted March – May 2024. The link to the Request for Partnership (RFP) is below. This document may be accessed at any time so that your organization may start preparing for submission. Upon submission and review of your RFP, the Director of Agency Services will contact you relative to qualifying to become a partner agency. Partnerships will be based on the area of your food pantry, how many pantries we currently have close to your site, the type of food distribution you are planning to provide to the community, and the need for assistance.

Most Frequently Asked Questions About Becoming a Partner Agency:

Food Distribution

Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, through a network of nearly 160 agency partners, efficiently sources and distributes over 12 million pounds of food annually to residents across the greater Peninsula who are at risk of hunger. Pantries are open twice a month, year round.

Food Distribution Programs:

  • Shopping Market – Foodbank Agency Partners are able to access our 6,000 square foot shopping area to choose those foods best suited to the need of the organization and the people it serves.
  • Bulk Day – Agency Partners receive meats, fresh produce, bread and bakery items, dairy products, snacks, plus other nutritious foods. Within hours food moves from the food bank to the hands of food insecure individuals.
  • USDA Food Commodity Program– Through TEFAP, partner agencies can apply to distribute nutritious food to income eligible individuals.
  • Neighbor-to-Neighbor Food Rescue Program– This program connects partner agencies with area grocery stores and restaurants. Select partner agencies, who are trained in safely handling and transporting food, recover food that would otherwise be tossed out and distribute it at their sites.
