Hunger Action Month is a campaign in which Feeding America, the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, and the national network of over 200 food banks raise awareness and take action on the issue of hunger. Hunger is a solvable issue and we are leading the effort to end it. You can help by getting involved and mobilizing your community. When we solve hunger today, we end hunger tomorrow!
Hunger Action Month is a time when we raise awareness of community hunger and shine a light on the need for healthy food that still remains. We encourage our neighbors to come together by donating food, funds, or their time to our mission, but we also strive simply to place food insecurity and the obstacles that accompany not having enough to eat in the forefront of our strong and vibrant community’s thoughts.
To continue to meet the constant need for nutritious meals, we will rely on what always remains our most important asset: our generous community. Our donors and our volunteers are our backbone, and even though hunger is always present, so is the support of our community. This September, and continuing throughout the year, we will take every opportunity to make hunger matter and strengthen our partnerships with those neighbors in the place we are proud to call home. Working together, we not only provide hunger relief, but we also offer a sense of hope.

Our 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar has ideas on how you can be a part of Hunger Action Month to help solve hunger. Whether its volunteering, coordinating a food and fund drive, donating, or advocating about the need in our community to help families, we can all play a role to help out our neighbors in need. Just $1 a day keeps hunger away!
Turn Orange
Turn Orange – Orange is the color for Hunger so why not brighten up someone’s life who struggles with hunger by showing your support of Hunger Action Month. Light up your building in orange, change your website page to orange, and use the color orange in your company or organizations newsletters.
Food/Fund Drive
The Foodbank depends on fundraisers to help feed our neighbors in need throughout the year. Coordinate an event to help raise food and funds for families facing hunger. Every can and dollar makes a difference!
Take Action to Help Solve Hunger:
- Turn your on-line profile ORANGE during Hunger Action Month
- Wear Orange on Friday, September 15th for Hunger Action Day!
- Light up your building with Orange Lights
- Like and Follow Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, and invite your friends to do the same
- Create an JustGiving Fundraising page and share on your social media pages
- Create a Facebook Fundraiser
- Invite your member of Congress to tour the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank
- Call the Foodbank to schedule a tour of the Foodbank to see how your donations are being put to work (practicing CDC guidelines)
- Share pictures of you and your friends, co-workers going ORANGE, and use the hashtag #HungerActionMonth
- Schedule a day to volunteer at the Foodbank or at one of our Mobile Food Pantry Distributions
