Peninsula should tackle challenge of region’s food insecurity
As many readers are already aware, the area served by the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank has the highest rate of food insecurity in the state at 13.9 percent, compared to the state average of 12.7 percent. Sadly, Hampton and Newport News both have food insecurity rates higher than 17 percent. This means that 1 in 6 residents of Hampton and Newport News live in households where they are unable to consistently access enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy life.
